Yesterday we went to the cinema and watched the most successful movie of the year: Guardians of the Galaxy
This Marvel comic adaption is about a small band of misfits, who cross paths by chance. But they soon find out that there's a larger evil at work and so they team up to help save a planet from being wiped out and form the Guardians of the Galaxy.
That's about the spoiler-free plot of the movie. The heroes are Peter Quill - a human, Gamorra - an assassin and (adopted) daughter of Thanos, Drax - the destroyer, Rocket - a genetically enhanced racoon and Groot - a talking tree. This uneven lot is the galaxy's best chance to survive - at least if you believe in the comics. Of course the first movie is all about getting them to know each other, but the movie isn't dull or too long because of that. Quite the opposite actually as you experience the quirks of those five first hand as they do on screen.
So the movie is a funny and exciting one and the current hype is well deserved. A sequel is already being planned, so let's wait and see what this will bring us.
After the movie we went home and were greeted by our cats, who wanted to be played with - which we did of course. After that we went onto the couch and watched one old episode each of QI and Top Gear.
The cats wait "patiently" for their meal, just before they start to nibble our toes.

Bei dieser Marvel Comic Verfilmung geht es um eine Bande scheinbar zufällig zusammengewürfelter Anti-Helden, die versuchen ihre teils kriminellen Machschaften durchzuziehen und geraten dabei miteinander in Konflikt. Als sich dann herausstellt, dass es noch jemand böseren gibt, der ganze Planeten auslöschen will, schließen sich die fünf zusammen und vollbringen Gutes.
Soweit einmal der spoilerfreie Inhalt des Films. Die Helden sind Peter Quill - ein Mensch, Gamorra - eine Assassine und (Adoptiv)Tochter von Thanos, Drax - der Zerstörer, Rocket - ein genetisch veränderter Waschbär und Groot - ein sprechender Baum. Dieses ungleiche Team stellt die besten Chance für das Überleben der Galaxie dar - zumindest wenn man den Comics vertrauen darf. Natürlich bringt der erste Film mit den fünf erst einmal die Entstehung mit sich. Es macht den Film dadurch aber nicht langsamer oder langweiliger, ganz im Gegenteil - so lernt man doch die Macken aller recht schnell kennen und lieben.
Alles in allem ein witziger und spannender Film der den aktuellen Hype um sich durchaus verdient. Ein Fortsetzung ist bereits angedacht und wir dürfen gespannt sein was die dann so bringen wird.
Nach dem Kino zuhause angekommen haben wir uns dann mit den Katzen beschäftigt und sind dann noch für zwei Serienepisoden auf die Couch gefallen: jeweils eine alte Folge von QI und Top Gear stand am Programm.
Die Katzen warten "brav" auf ihr Futter, bevor sie anfangen die Zehen anzuknabbern.
