Yesterday I was a bit longer at work than I wanted to and paid the price when I drove home, because it took me 45 instead of the usual 15 minutes to get home. Our cats didn't seem to notice this much, so it was ok with them.
For dinner I had a great bacon - my dear bought last week - but our pussy cat also noticed it and really wanted to have a bite too. Although she had her own food, she was very insistent to have some of my bacon as well. "But it's baaaaaaaacon!" was the most accurate translation of her looks and actions. In exchange for letting me eat my dinner, I afterwards played a lot with the two and they seemed to were happy with that too.
Then finally - after about 2 hours of updating the files - I was able to enter Mordor and became the Shadow of Mordor. The hero of the game is a ranger who was killed in a ritual by three Uruk leaders, which leads to him being bonded with an elfen wraith. The premise of the game is that you want to take revenge for this and your family's killing, who didn't seem to have found an elf wraith to bring them back. To do so our ranger need not only rely on his strength in combat but also stealth is a way of life here in the darker parts of Middle Earth - which leads to his nickname - Shadow of Mordor.
Over the course of the game you get introduced to the background story of the wraith and you can also increase his stats to make his abilities more effective. But the heart of the game is the nemesis system. It's a dynamic power structure of various orcs and uruks, which changes constantly. Mostly when an orc or uruk kills you, which leads to his promotion, which then leads to him challenging another orc or uruk which then leads to another promotion and void inside the power structure. The main goal of the game is to find the three uruks who cursed you and break this curse of theirs.
Here are some screenshots of the adventures of the first evening:
Conclusion after playing for one evening: it's a great game, but not without some flaws. I did have some bad luck in the beginning and was killed very early by an uruk, who because of that increased in power. I then met him twice more, but the last encounter was also his last one. In the meantime he had become quite popular though. The system to upgrade your stuff and abilities is quite nice, as you collect three kinds of currency to spend on those upgrade type each.
The cats wanted to say something to me today, but what was that again?
"We would congratulate you to your birthday, but we are too hungry!"
