Kanban or can't ban?

Yesterday afternoon we had sort of a boardgame afternoon at work - we were "allowed" to play the Kanban boardgame (getKanban with a price tag of about $500) during a training course for this topic. Since I like to test boardgames, I'll also try to do this with that one.

The game depicts a small software company and the processes of analysis, development and testing have to managed. After each round an event takes place, which mirrors possible real events. Then it's the team's job to react to those events and try to maximize the profit until the end of the game.

Summary: although the game tries it's best to show what Kanban can do, the reality is a bit different and mostly the people in charge will need to rethink their decisions if anything is about to change. The small developer is mostly aware of the daily problems and with the game he gets to see what could be changed to make it better, but doesn't have the power to do so.

In the evening we played a bit Diablo 3 and then went onto the couch to watch Night at the Museum 3 - nothing fancy really, just some mild entertainment. Although the highlight for me was the cameo appearance of Huge Ackmann!
