We went to the movies yesterday and watched The Dark Tower.
This movie is based on a novel by Stephen King and is about a boy who has nightmares, which turn out to be true as he is in the middle of a war between Evil and Good. The Evil wants to bring down the Dark Tower with the use of children's shine, while the Good wants revenge on Evil for killing his father.
That's about it, although the Evil is a powerful magician - perfectly played by Matthew McConaughey - and the Good is a gunslinger - also perfectly played by Idris Elba. This is the basis for the duel between magic and technology, in which magic always seems to have the upper hand and kills the good guys one by one.
But then there's also the boy - well played by Tom Taylor - how has a mightier shine than any other kid and it seems that could be enough to hold Evil at bay. So in the end there's the duel between those three sides...
The movie feels more like a pilot for a tv or movie series and keeps the audience rather empty handed in the end. This isn't necessarily bad, but it doesn't feel like a whole movie experience in the end.
Conclusion: I really liked the movie - the main cast ist great in my opinion - but it still lacks something and that's why I can only recommend it partially.
