Filmreview: Onward

Yesterday we went to the movies again after a long time and watched the latest Pixar movie: Onward

It is about two teenage brothers, whoh want to bring back their dead father for one day and they want to do that with magic. Ah yes, the boys are elves and live in a fantasy world. It almost sounds like a horror movie, but it is of course made for childdren and teenagers.

The boys have a lot of adventures to live through, which looks a lot like a D&D adventure. In the end it is simple entertainment where neither roleplaying fans nor ordinary viewers get the perfect entertainment for their tastes.

Conclusion: it is ok, but for me too shallow entertainment

Gestern waren wir nach langer Zeit wieder im Kino und haben uns den neuesten Pixar Film angesehen: Onward

Dabei geht es um ein Teenager Brüderpaar, die ihren toten Vater für einen Tag wieder ins Leben rufen wollen und zwar mit Magie. Ach ja, die Burschen sind Elfen und leben in einer Fantasy-Welt. Es klingt zwar nach einem Horrorfilm, aber er ist natürlich für Kinder und Jugendliche gemacht.

Grundsätzlich erleben die beiden Jungs etlich Abenteuer, die nicht zufällig an ein Rollenspielszenario wie D&D erinnern. Schlussendlich ist es leichter Unterhaltung, wobei weder eingefleischte Rollenspielfans noch andere Jungendliche voll auf ihre Rechnung kommen.

Fazit: ganz nett, aber für mich zu seichte Unterhaltung

Film Review: Men in Black International

Yesterday we went to the movies and watched - against better judgement from the film critics - Men in Black International.

The Men in Black are back, but not the ones we have seen in the the previous installations (Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones), instead we get array of new characters in New York and London.

Molly had an encounter with the Men in Black as a child and once she's grown up she wants to join the organisation. In the end she succeeds and she's sent to London to check out some strange things within the agency. There she meets Agent H (Chris Hemsworth), who is not the typical agent you would except. Together they too try to save the world from total destruction...

Nice visual effects but the script is total crap. Mr. Hemsworth is - yet again - reduced to a womanizer with little brain and needs the help of Agent M to get anything done.

Conclusion: popcorn movie of the lowest kind, which can be enjoyed if the brain stays at home and you like very swallow humour, otherwise stay away from this

Gestern waren wir im Kino und haben und - trotz schlechter Kritiken vorab - Men in Black International angeschaut.

Die Men in Black sind zurück, aber nicht wie gewohnt in der Form von Will Smith und Tommy Lee Jones, sondern eine ganze Reihe von neuen Agenten in New York und London.

Molly hat als Kind ein Erlebnis mit den Men in Black gehabt und will was Erwachsene der Organisation beitreten. Schlussendlich gelingt das auch und sie wird nach London geschickt um dort Ungereimtheiten aufzudecken. Dabei trifft sich auf Agent H (Chris Hemsworth), der alles andere als ein typischer Agent ist. Zusammen versuchen auch sie die Welt wieder einmal vor der Vernichtung zu retten...

Nette Effekte aber das Drehbuch ist ein echter Schmarrn. Mr. Hemsworth wird - erneut - auf das Niveau eines dümmlichen Frauenheld reduziert und kann ohne Agent M keine nennenswerten Erfolge vorweisen.

Fazit: Popcorn Kino der untersten Kategorie, wenn man sein Gehirn gar nicht verwenden will und auf seichten Humor steht kann man ihn sich vielleicht ansehen, sonst besser nicht

Film Review: Avengers Endgame

It was monday again and time to finally see the movie everyone in the world is talking about - Avengers Endgame.

After the dramtic events of the last movie the story picks up at once, but the remaining Avengers have no luck in changing their or the universe's destiny.

But then they came up with a plan to use time travel to solve their problems and this is when the spoilers will happen, so I'll just leave it at that.

The movie runs more than 3 hours and this is mainly because the massive action sequences are also paired with some very slow and revealing scenes that show the character's feelings and the situations they are in, but the entertainment was quite right.

Conclusion: a monumental conclusion of one part of Marvel's comic franchises, but not the end of all Marvel movie projects

Es war wieder Kinomontag und wir haben uns - wie der Rest der Welt auch - Avengers Endgame angeschaut.

Nach den dramatischen Ereignissen des letzten Films ging es gleich nahtlos weiter, doch die verbleibenden Avengers haben kein Glück ihr Schicksal oder jenes des Universums zu ändern.

Doch dann kommen sie auf die Idee mittels Zeitreisen alles zu ändern und ab dann beginnen die Spoiler des Films, also lasse ich besser den Inhalt ab hier weg.

Der Film ist mit einer Länge von 3 Stunden schon recht umfangreich und stellenweise wir die Action einfach durch lange ruhige Szenen ersetzt, was vielleicht eine Spur zuviel ist, aber trotzdem gut gepasst hat.

Fazit: ein monumentaler Abschluss eines Teil der Marvel Comic Verfilmungen, aber noch lang kein Ende für weitere Filme

Film Review: Captain Marvel

Yesterday it was movie monday and we went to see Captain Marvel.

The long expected movie about the past of the female super hero takes place in the past - obviously - and explains how she got her powers, why Nick Fury is using her pager at the end of Infinity War and some more nice details.

With this movie Marvel finally made a film with a solid female lead which can hold up against DC's Wonder Woman. Otherwise the movie is a collection of computer animation and effects, which warrants the use of 3D.

Conclusion: a must-see movie for all comic fans out there! Highlight of course was Goose, the cat, but that was obvious.

Gestern war Kino-Montag und wir haben uns Captain Marvel angesehen.

Der lange erwartet Film zur Vorgeschichte des weiblichen Superhelden spielt - wie könnte es anders sein - in der Vergangenheit und erklärt wie sie zu ihren Superkräften kam, warum Nick Fury ihren Pager am Ende von Infinity War benutzt und auch sonst ein paar nette Details.

Mit dem Film hat es Marvel jetzt endlich geschafft einen soliden weiblichen Superhelden zu schaffen und so Wonder Woman von DC Paroli zu bieten. Ansonsten ist der Film ein Feuerwerk an Computereffekten und -animationen, bei denen sich 3D wieder einmal auszahlt.

Fazit: ein wichtiger Film, den man als Comic Fan gesehen haben muss! Highlight war natürlich Goose, die Katze, aber das war klar.

Film Review: Ralph Breaks the Internet

Yesterday it was time again to go to the movies and we watched - two month later than the US release of the movie - the latest Wreck-It Ralph movie: Ralph Breaks the Internet.

The story continues where it last stopped. Ralph and Vanellope do their daily work of being video game characters in an arcade. But one day Vanellope's game gets damaged and the owner of the arcade doesn't want to spent too much money to repair an old game so he shuts the game down.

Ralph wants to help in the situation and him and Vanellope try out this new game: Internet! Once there there the experience a lot of adventures, including annoying pop-ups and dangerous viruses, until they finally get what they were looking for. But it this really the thing everyone wants for their life?

The movie is full of funny stuff and elements from video games and internet memes. To get all of them you need to rewatch the movie several times.

Conclusion: nice entertainment, although the funnies scene of the whole movie was already shown in the trailer.

Gestern war wieder Kinotag und wir haben uns - mit zwei Monaten Verspätung zum USA Start - den neuesten Wreck-It Ralph Film angeschaut: Ralph Breaks the Internet.

Die Geschichte wird dort fortgesetzt, wo der erste Teil geendet hat. Ralph und Vanellope gehen ihrer täglichen Arbeit nach - Videospielcharaktere in einer Spielhalle zu sein. Doch eines Tages geht Vanellope's Spiel kaputt und das Ersatzteil ist dem Besitzer der Spielhalle zu teuer und schaltet deswegen das entsprechende Spiel ab.

Ralph will jedoch helfen und so begeben sich er und Vanellope in das neueste Spiel: Internet! Dort erleben sie alle möglichen Abenteuer, angefangen von lästigen Pop-Ups bis hin zu fiesen Computerviren, bis sie schlussendlich ihr Ziel vor Augen haben. Doch ist es das wirklich was alle Beteiligten wollen?

Der Film strotzt vor lustigen Anspielungen und Elementen aus Videospielen und Internetmemes. Allein dafür müsste man sich den Film ein paar Mal anschauen um alles wirklich zu finden.

Fazit: gute Unterhaltung, auch wenn die witzigste Szene bereits im Trailer zu dem Film zu sehen war.

Film Review: Aquaman

Yesterday we went to the movies again and we finally watched Aquaman.

Arthur's background is told at the beginning of the movie, but most parts revolve around him being the heir to Atlantis and his future. Oh yes, of course he also saves mankind and the planet while pursuing his destiny, but it's a super hero movie so that's always part of the deal, right?

The movie does have a story - which you should not look at too closely - and tons of computer effects and animation. Also the 3D effects are really nicely done, but not throughout the whole movie though.

Conclusion: Jason Momoa while a naked, wet upper torso - what else would you except from the this movie? Well, it isn't much story according to the movie makers obvisouly...

Gestern waren wir wieder im Kino und haben endlich den Aquaman nachgeholt.

Arthur's Geschichte wird hier ein bisschen beleuchtet, aber grundsätzlich geht es im Film um seine Zukunft als Erbe von Atlantis. Ah ja, natürlich muss er dazu auch gleich die Welt retten, aber das versteht sich in einem Superhelden-Film ja fast schon von selbst.

Der Film hat Handlung - die man besser nicht zu genau hinterfragt - und Tonnen an Computereffekten und -animationen. Auch die 3D Effekte sind durchaus sehenswert, aber halt nicht durch den ganzen Film vorhanden.

Fazit: Jason Momoa mit nacktem, nassen Oberkörper - was kann man mehr wollen? Also Story scheinbar nicht, wenn es nach dem Filmemachern geht...

Film Review: The Crimes of Grindelwald

This monday we went to the movies again and we watched the latest JK Rowling film: Fantastic Beasts 2 - The Crimes of Grindelwald

The story starts where the last film ended and the evil wizard Grindelwald is about to be transferred from New York to Europe. Of course this fails - otherwise there would be no movie story to tell. Newt Scamander gets the quest to help with the recapture of Grindelwald twice and so the rest of the movie takes place in Paris.

A very well done and dakr wizarding world is presented here. Newt's fantastic beasts are also again a centerpiece of the film and all in all it's a great movie to watch.

Conclusion: very well made fantasy film, where the 3D effects are totally worth it!

Gestern war wieder Kinomontag und wir haben uns den neuesten JK Rowling Film angesehen: Fantastic Beasts 2 - The Crimes of Grindelwald

Die Handlung beginnt knapp nach dem ersten Film und der böse Zauberer Grindelwald soll von New York nach Europa überstellt werden. Natürlich geht das schief und er entkommt - sonst gäbe es ja wohl keinen Film. Newt Scamander wird zweimal beauftragt sich darum zu kümmern und so findet dann die restliche Handlung in Paris statt.

Eine sehr gut gemachte und dunkle Welt der Zauberer wird gezeichnet. Newt's Tierwesen kommen auch wieder gut zur Geltung und alles in allem ist es ein gelungener Film im Wizarding World Universum von Mrs. Rowling.

Fazit: sehr guter Fantasyfilm, bei dem die 3D Effekte wirklich sehenswert sind!

Film Review: Mission: Impossible - Fallout

Yesterday we went to the movies with our usual clique and we watched the latest Tom Cruise film Mission: Impossible - Fallout.

The story is once again that the world is in danger, Mr. Cruise is the only one to help with that and he gets betrayed by the people he trusts and in the end the world is saved or not.

Well, this sounds like any other movie from the Mission: Impossible franchise. The difference is only in the locations and stunts.

This time though the story tried to tie in story elements from previous movies of the franchise and I have to admit I could not follow most of them - that's how memorable the previous movies actually were.

Conclusion: a lot of action, a broken ankle on Mr. Cruise's part and many logical errors - the perfect summary of a summer action blockbuster

Gestern waren wir wieder mit unserer üblichen Runde im Kino und haben uns den aktuellen Tom Cruise Film Mission: Impossible - Fallout angeschaut.

Die Prämisse ist einmal mehr, dass die Welt bedroht wird, Mr. Cruise als einziger helfen kann und von seinen Vorgesetzten hintergangen wird und vielleicht oder auch nicht die Welt rettet.

Soweit klingt die Story wie jeder andere bisherige Mission: Impossible Film. Der Unterschied sind lediglich die Schauplätze und gezeigten Stunts.

Diesmal wird in der Handlung allerdings auch auf andere Filme der Reihe referenziert und ich muss gestehen, dass ich da nicht mitgekommen bin - so gut sind mir die Stories aus den vorherigen Filmen im Gedächtnis geblieben.

Fazit: viel Action, ein gebrochener Knöchel beim Cruise und etliche Logikfehler - das Rezept für den Action-Sommer-Blockbuster

The story is about young Han, who tries to find a bette life with his love from childhood and gets involved in an interesting adventure which ends rather unexpected...

That's the story without any major spoilers. Although it should be a Star Wars movie - and some of the lead characters are from that franchise - this one could easily be a generic science fiction heist movie. You could argue that's the reason why there is Star Wars in the film's title...

The characters are well established and the story includes some nice little tid-bits, to clean up some previous questions

Conclusion: a nice and entertaining movie, which just happens to be taking place in the Star Wars universe

Die Geschichte handelt vom jungen Han, der mit seiner Jungendliebe versucht ein besseres Leben zu beginnen und dann in ein großes Abenteuer verstrickt wird, welches ein überraschendes Ende nimmt...

Das ist einmal die Handlung, ohne dass viel gespoilert wird. Obwohl es als Star Wars Film vermarktet wird - und einige der handelnden Figuren tatsächlich von dort entstammen - könnte der Film ebenso gut ein generischer Science Fiction Film mit Gangster-Heist Thema sein. Man könnte fast sagen, es hat einen Grund warum im Title extra Star Wars vorkommt, damit der Zuschauer es auch weiß...

Die Charaktere sind gut gezeichnet und von der Story her gibt es viele nette, kleine Fakten, die jetzt mehr Sinn machen.

Fazit: ein guter und unterhaltsamer Film, der zufällig punktweise in Star Wars Universum passt

Film Review: Deadpool 2

Yesterday us movie goers went to see the latest Marvel movie, which was not one of the nice ones: Deadpool 2

Again it's all about the merc with a mouth - Deadpool. And right from the start the movie wants you to know that it's a family movie! But be careful this is nothing to show children, as there are plenty of brutal scenes like in the first of it's kind.

The story is rather simple really, Deadpool comes across a young mutant who was living in kind of rehab for mutants, but was treated very badly there and in the end he tries to bring him back from his dark side to take revenge against the whole world.

Action, quotes and flying, cut-off body parts - that's what the audience is getting with this movie. And of course there's the usual jokes about Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds' past.

Conclusion: nothing for people with a feint stomach or people who don't get political incorrectness, otherwise a must-watch movie!

Es geht wieder um den Merc with a Mouth - Deadpool. Und wie man gleich zu Beginn des Films erfährt handelt es sich diesmal um einen Familienfilm! Doch Achtung, der Film ist auf gar keinen Fall für Kinder gedacht, denn die brutalen Szenen und Schnitte kennt man ja schon aus dem ersten Teil.

Die Handlung ist schnell erzählt, Deadpool stolpert quasi über einen jungen Mutanten aus einer Erziehungsheim, dem schlimmes widerfahren ist und schlussendlich will er ihm helfen einen besseren Weg als er selber einzuschlagen.

Action, flotte Sprüche und fliegende, abgetrennte Körperteile - das ist so ziemlich die beste Zusammenfassung des Films. Und es wird auch wieder nicht mit den üblichen Seitenhieben auf Wolverine und Ryan Reynolds' Vergangenheit gespart.

Fazit: nichts für schwache Mägen oder Leute die mit politisch unkorrekten Filmen nichts anfangen können, ansonsten ein Klassiker!

Film Review: Avengers - Infinity War

Yesterday we went to the movies with a part of our usual monday group to watch Avengers - Infinity War

The story continues from the last Marvel movies and brings back (almost) all heroes we've seen so far. And then there is the big bad one: Thanos, who try to collect all Infinity Stones to get rid of half the population of the whole universe - because of overpopulation

That's a reason the heroes can not live with, so they prepare for battle against him but soon find out that Thanos is a rather strong force to deal with...

A lot of action and so many storylines continued that you have troubles wrapping your head around it. So if you don't know all Marvel movies by heart, you might be confused by some scenes here. Having said that the movie is really good and Thanos is a great evil guy, whose reasons can be understood for most of the time...

Conclusion: since it's the first part of a two-part movie, it ends as expected and we have to wait a year to see the conclusion, still a very good action movie for the whole family

Gestern waren wir mit einem Teil der Kinorunde im aktuellen Marvel Film Avengers - Infinity War

Die Handlung schließt an die letzten Marvel Filme an und bringt (fast) alle bis dato in Filmen dargestellten Helden wieder auf die Leinwand. Denn es kommt der große, böse Thanos der mit den Inifinty Stones die Hälfte der Einwohner der Universums einfach auslöschen will - es wäre wegen der Überbevölkerung im Allgemeinen.

Natürlich wollen die Helden das nicht und stellen sich dem Kampf, doch schon bald müssen sie erkennen, dass gegen Thanos kein Kraut (oder kein Baum) gewachsen ist...

Viel Action und viele alte Storylines werden hier wieder zum Leben erweckt. Doch gerade das ist ein bisschen ein Problem, wenn man nicht alle bisherigen Marvel Filme auswendig kann, dürften manche Szenen wenig Sinn machen. Trotzdem es ist für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei und Thanos ist ein wirklich guter Bösewicht, dessen Beweggründe eigentlich nicht ganz von der Hand zu weisen sind...

Fazit: nachdem es sich um den ersten Teil eines Zweiteilers handelt, geht es so aus wie erwartet und man muss jetzt ein Jahr auf die Auflösung warten, trotzdem gutes Actionkino für die ganze Familie

Film Review: Ready Player One

Yesterday after work I went to the movies with friends and watched Ready Player One.

The movie takes place in a not too distant future version of earth, where the OASIS - some kind of global VR-internet - has become the center of life. It's inventor has started a treasure hunt after his death, since he hid an easter egg inside the game and whoever finds it takes full control of the entire OASIS.

Since the treasure hunters have spent several years already solving the puzzles, our hero Parzival - together with the help of some online friends - solves the first clues and thus the first puzzle. With that move he gets noticed by the evil cooperation IOI, which tried everything to get hold of the OASIS, which the want to flood with advertisement once to control it. They even resort to violence and kidnapping to get their goal.

The movie is well made and you find a lot of similarities to today's computer games, so that this future is more than likely to happen. The story is well written and the popculture references are absolutely great.

Conclusion: a very good action movie, not only for computer game players, but for them especially!

Wir waren gestern nach der Arbeit mit Freunden im Kino und haben uns Ready Player One angesehen.

Der Film spielt in einer nicht allzu fernen Zukunft auf der Erde, wo die OASIS - eine Art globales VR-Internet - das Zentrum des Lebens geworden ist. Der Erfinder der OASIS hat mit seinem Tod eine Schatzjagd ausgelöst, denn nur wer sein im Spiel verstecktes Easter Egg findet, bekommt die Kontrolle über die gesamte OASIS.

Nachdem sich Schatzjäger über Jahre versucht haben die Rätsel zu lösen, findet der Held Parzival - gemeinsam mit seinen Online Freunden - die ersten Hinweise und kann das erste Rätsel lösen. Damit gerät er allerdings ins Visier der IOI Cooperation, die alles daran setzt die Kontrolle über die OASIS zu erhalten und sie dann mit Werbeeinschaltungen zu überfluten. Dabei schrecken sie auch nicht davor zurück, die Spieler abseites des Spiel zu bedrohen und zu entführen.

Der Film ist sehr gut gemacht und man findet schon aus den heutigen Spielen viele Parallele wieder, sodass diese Zukunftsvision durchaus Realität werden könnte. Die Story ist gut und die Anspielungen auf diverses Popculture Trends sind grandios.

Fazit: ein sehr guter Action Film, nicht nur für Computerspieler ein Erlebnis, aber für die vor allem!

Film Review: Tomb Raider

Yesterday we were at the movies and watched the latest installment of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

The movie is a reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise and therefore there's a new female lead actor in place.

The story is loosely based on the a video game of the same name, which also rebooted the franchise on the video game market. Lara follows her father, who is presumed dead, on his last expedition and finds more than she was hoping for. Soon she has to try to free herself from an evil organisation and try to survive on an otherwise lonely island in the pacific...

The story is rather well written, but don't look too hard on the details and the reasons the character do what they are doing. Just switch off your brain and enjoy the action ride, that's the best way to watch the movie.

The actor of Lara Croft has not been chosen rather well, as she still is more like a afraid doe at the end of the movie instead of the tough action heroine we liked to love over the years. And the bad guy is even a worse choice of actor, since he can't decide if he's playing an accountant or a mercenary and that make his whole plot line rather unbelievable.

Conclusion: action ok, content well...

Gestern waren wir wieder im Kino und haben uns den aktuellsten Film aus über Lara Croft angesehen: Tomb Raider

Der Film dient quasi dazu die ganze Tomb Raider Geschichte neu zu erzählen und deswegen gibt es auch eine neue Schauspielerin für die Titelrolle.

Die Story basiert lose auf einem Videospiel mit demselben Namen, welches auch als Soft-Reboot für das Franchise gedient hat. Lara folgt ihrem totgeglaubten Vater auf dessen letzte Expedition und findet dabei mehr als ihr lieb ist. Schon bald muss sie sich aus dem Fängen einer bösen Organisation befreien und auf eigene Faust auf einer sonst einsamen Insel im Pazifik überleben...

Die Story is durchaus gut geschrieben, aber bei der Handlung darf man sich keinerlei Gedanken über die Beweggründe der Charaktere machen. Einfach Hirn abschalten und die Action Revue passieren lassen, damit wird man am besten unterhalten.

Schauspielerisch kann ich nicht behaupten, dass Lara Croft sehr passend gewählt wurde, selbst am Ende vom Film wirkt sie noch immer wie ein verschrecktes Reh und nicht wie die toughe Archäologin, die man über die Jahre schätzen gelernt hat. Der Böse ist allerdings schlichtweg schlecht, denn entweder ist er ein Schreibtischtäter oder ein Söldner, aber beides kann er nicht dem Publikum vermitteln und das macht ihn dann irgendwie unglaubwürdig.

Fazit: Action ja, Handlung na ja

Film Review: Jumanji - Welcome to the Jungle

Yesterday we went to the movies on a wednesday, because of vacation time, and we watched Jumanji - Welcome to the Jungle.

The story is about a quartet of teenagers, who find themselves teleported inside a computer game version of the (in)famous boardgame Jumanji and there have to prove themselves in various tests and quests before they can reach their goal.

The movie is rather funny and the story is also very good - since it's very close to actual computer games. The mistakes (on purpose?) are also acceptable, since almost the whole movie takes place inside the computer game and that's how it works there.

Conclusion: good and funny entertainment with great actors - must see

Gestern waren wir ausnahmsweise am Mittwoch im Kino und haben uns Jumanji - Willkommen im Dschungel angeschaut.

Es geht um ein Quartett aus Teenagern, die in eine Computerspielversion des berüchtigten Brettspiels Jumanji gezogen werden und dort Abenteuer und Prüfungen bestehen müssen, um zum Ziel zu kommen.

Der Humor kommt bei dem Film auf keinen Fall zu kurz und auch die Handlung ist gut gemacht - und eben einem Computerspiel nachempfunden. Die (absichtlichen oder auch nicht) Logikfehler sind also durchaus verzeihbar, weil sie eben genauso auch in Computerspielen vorkommen.

Fazit: gute, solide Unterhaltung mit coolen Schauspielern - sehenswert

Film Review: The Last Jedi

Yesterday we went to the movies to watch the annual Star Wars movie: The Last Jedi.

The movie starts where episode 7 ended: the rebels are on the run and Rey finally found Luke Skywalker, the last chance for the rebellion to win. But he is neither interested in help the rebels with his jedi powers or train Rey .

It looks rather grim for the rebellion, but then there's a twist in the force and we get space battles and lightsaber duels.

Well, the movie ist - like episode 7 before - a rather blunt copy of the second movie of the original trilogy and therefore rathe dull. Unfortunately it is full of plot holes as well and some nice battle scenes can not make up for that.

Conclusion: disappointing and lackluster, no recommendation from me on that one

Gestern war der jährliche Star Wars Film in unserer Kinorunde dran, also The Last Jedi.

Der Film geht gleich dort weiter, wo Episode 7 aufgehört hat: die Rebellen sind auf der Flucht und Rey hat Luke Skywalker gefunden, der als letzte Chance für die Rebellion gehalten wird. Doch der hat kein Interesse seine Jedi-Kräfte für die Galaxie einzusetzen und auch nicht Rey zu trainieren.

Es schaut also schlecht für die Rebellen aus, doch dann wendet sich das Blatt und es kommt zu Weltraumschlachten und Lichtschwertduellen.

Nun ja, der Film ist - wie schon Episode 7 - ein Abklatsch des zweiten Filmes der Originaltriologie und dementsprechend relativ ideenlos. Leider ist er auch voller Plotholes und ein paar gut choreographische Kämpfe reißen ihn dann nicht wirklich heraus.

Fazit: enttäuschend und unambitioniert, leider keine Empfehlung von mir

FIlmreview: Murder on the Orient Express

Yesterday we went to the movies and watched the remake of Murder on the Orient Express.

The classic Agatha Christie story about the famous triand and the murder, which Hercules Poirot tries to solve, was remade with state of the art Hollywood celebrities. The Story iself was - fortunately - left unchanged.

The actors try their best to make the movie good, but in my opinion the movie tried to hard to be modern as well and left some of it's charm that way. Also some logical errors - like the journey on a ferry from Israel to Istanbul in just one day at the beginning of the movie or a train being hit by avalanche doesn't just come to a halt like that - add to my not liking the movie very much.

Conclusion: I'm rather disappointed at this movie, but fans of mystery film with celebrities might still enjoy it

Gestern sind wir ins Kino gegangen und haben die Neuverfilmung von Mord im Orient Express angeschaut.

Die klassische Agatha Christie Geschichte um den berühmten Zug und einen Mord, den Hercules Poirot aufzuklären versucht, wurde wieder mit aktueller Starbesetzung verfilmt. Die Geschichte selber blieb - zum Glück - aber unverändert.

Die Schauspieler versuchen ihr Bestes, dem Film Tiefe zu geben, aber meiner Meinung nach war die Neuverfilmung zu modern angesetzt und hat damit an Charme verloren. Auch einige Logikfehler - Reise mit einer Fähre von Israel nach Istanbul in einem Tag zu Beginn und ein Zug der von einer Lawine getroffen wird bleibt einfach stehen - haben mir nicht geholfen den Film gut zu finden.

Fazit: ich war leider von dem Film enttäuscht, möchte aber Fans von Krimis mit Starbesetzung jetzt nicht davon abraten - es ist halt eher ein mittelmäßiger Film

Film Review: Justice League

Yesterday it was monday again and we went to the cinema to watch the latest DC movie: Justice League

After the events of the previous movie (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) it's looking rather grim for the world. Superman is dead, the Earth is invaded by aliens (again) and the remaining superheroes are not up to the task of repelling them. So Batman and Wonder Woman are on a mission to search for new recruit and the balance things out again.

They try to win over Barry Allen (The Flash), Arthur Curry (Aquaman) and Victor Stone (Cycborg) to their cause, but are not quite as successful as they hoped. Still pretty much alone they face the invaders in (yet another) final battle for Earth.

It's a nice movie from the DC universe and has some funny lines, but in the end it cannot compare to The Avengers, although it should as this is pretty much the same theme. So DC will continue to stay as number 2 when it comes to comic movies.

Conclusion: it's ok and one of the better recent comic films, but nothing compared to Marvel's movies

Gestern war wieder Kino-Montag und wir haben uns den neuesten DC Film angesehen: Justice League

Nach den Ereignissen des letzten Filmes (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) schaut es schlecht für die Welt aus. Superman ist tot, die Erde wird von Ausserirdischen angegriffen (mal wieder) und die verbleibenden Superhelden fühlen sich der Sache nicht gewachsen. Also suchen Batman und Wonder Woman nach neuen Rekruten um das Gleichgewicht wieder herzustellen.

Dabei versuchen sie Barry Allen (The Flash), Arthur Curry (Aquaman) und Victor Stone (Cycborg) mit mehr oder weniger großem Erfolg von der Sache zu überzeugen. Noch immer fast auf sich allein gestellt, treten die Helden dann schlussendlich dem Bösen entgegen und es kommt (mal wieder) zur großen Abschlussschlacht.

Ein ganz netter Film aus dem DC Universum mit Action und ein paar witzigen Dialogen, doch schlussendlich nicht mit The Avengers zu vergleichen, obwohl das die Messlatte sein sollte. DC wird wohl auch weiterhin auf Platz 2 bei Comic Verfilmungen bleiben.

Fazit: ganz nett und einer der besseren Comciverfilmungen, aber an die Marvel Film kommt er eben nicht heran

Film Review: Thor Ragnarok

Yesterday we went to the movies and watched the latest Marvel incarnation: Thor Ragnarok

The movie doesn't bore you with long introductions, Thor starts off by preventing Ragnarok by eliminating the main threat according to the prophecy. But it doesn't end there and suddently he has to fight for Asgard against a sister he didn't know he had - Odin you tricky old man!

The movie is full of action, funny parts and it looks like it was from the 80s. But the whole thing works perfectly and is a very entertaining thing to watch.

Conclusion:a very well made final part of the Thor trilogy and another nixe build-up for the upcoming Infinity War - my personal highlight: Doctor Strange!

Gestern war Kino angesagt und wir haben uns den aktuellen Marvel Film angesehen: Thor Ragnarok

Der Film hält sich gar nicht erst mit langsamen Erklärungen auf, Thor versucht gleich zu Beginn Ragnarok aufzuhalten indem er der Prophezeiung ihre Grundlage nimmt. Doch dann kommt alles anders und auf einmal muss er gegen seine Schwester Hel um Asgard kämpfen und dass obwohl er nicht einmal gewusst hat, dass er noch eine Schwester hat - alter Odin-Schwede!

Der Film ist actionlastig, hat Humor ist und ist bunt wie wenn er aus den 80er Jahren stammen würde. Doch das Ganze passt wunderbar zusammen und bringt Kinounterhaltung pur.

Fazit: ein gelungener Abschluss zur Thor-Trilogie und ein weiterer Film der den kommenden Infinity War vorbereitet - Highlight für mich: Doctor Strange!

Film Review: Blade Runner 2049

This monday it was time to go to the movies again, since last week we cancelled our trip we saw Blade Runner 2049 this week.

The movie is about the Blade Runner K, who hunts and retires (= kills) replicants. This is pretty much the same story as the first movie, but now here's he twist (SPOILER!) - he himself is also a replicant. This means that you get a different view on his world and his work. His only companion is a hologram which keeps him company and sane.

The main story is about the replicant Rachel from the first movie and that she had a child. Since this was not part of the original plan, everyone is out to hunt for that child - including our Blade Runner.

While searching for the child, K meets with Deckert - the Blade Runner from the first movie - who also happens to be the father of said child.

The movie provides a lot of long and aesthetical scenes with dark music. The action sequences have all been used in the trailers before, so nothing new here. The movie is quite long - almost 3 hours - and therefore many people will find it too long. Still the movie is a cinematic experience no to be missed.

Conclusion: I really liked this movie a lot and it wasn't too long for me either - that's because I'm also not grasping the concept of quick action sequences which started a while back, I might be too old for that. The only thing I didn't like was that the speakers in the movie theatre was not handling the sound very well and thus some music parts were not very good to listen to.

Am Montag war es wieder Zeit ins Kino zu gehen und nachdem wir die Woche davor auslassen mussten war es diesmal Blade Runner 2049.

Das Film handelt von Blade Runner K, der Replikanten jagt und stilllegt (= tötet). Soweit unterscheidet sich der Film nicht von seinem Vorgänger. Was neu ist, ist dass man sehr früh im Film erfährt (SPOILER!), dass K selbst ein Replikant ist. Dadurch ergibt sich ein anderes Bild des Hauptdarstellers und seines Lebens, denn erlebt zusammen mit eine Freundschafts-Hologramm zusammen, welches ihm hilft mit seiner Situation umzugehen.

Die Geschichte dreht sich dann um die Replikantin Rachel aus dem ersten Film und darum, dass sie ein Kind bekommen hat, welches jetzt von allen Seiten gesucht wird, da dies eine revolutionärer Schritt für und gegen Replikanten sein kann.

Auf seiner Suche nach dem Kind trifft K dann auch Deckert, den Blade Runner aus dem ersten Film, denn der ist der Vater des Kindes.

Der Film bietet lange und ästhetische Szenen mit eindringlicher Musik. Die Action beschränkt sich auf jene Szenen, die man bereits aus den Trailern kennt. Auch die Dauer des Films - mit fast 3 Stunden - ist wahrscheinlich für manche Zuschauer zu lange. Trotzdem, der Film ist eine cineastisches Erlebnis.

Fazit: mir hat der Film sehr gut gefallen und er ist auch nicht zu lange für mich - wahrscheinlich weil ich auch mit diesen schnellen Action-Sequenzen von aktuellen Filmen nichts anfangen kann. Einziger Kritikpunkt meinerseits ist, dass die Soundanlage im Kinosaal nicht in der Lage war den Sound des Filmes auch korrekt abzuspielen und es immer wieder heftigst gedröhnt hat.

Film Review: Kingsman - The Golden Circle

Yesterday we went to the movies and watched Kingsman - The Golden Circle.

The movie starts right with some action as Agent Galahad/Eggsy's live is on the line when he is assaulted. He can barely escape with his life by going underground in the sewers of London.

But the action is still coming and after a strike against all british Kingsman Galahad and Merlin are the last ones standing and have to flee to their - until this point unknown - american colleagues, the Statesman.

Piece after piece the puzzle begins to form until the agents are ready to save the world...

Not to spoil too much of the story is quite hard with this movie. But the sequel is really living up to the expectations. You get the feeling that there are even more action and slo-mo shots in this one and the humor isn't left out as well. There are even funny and action scenes not already shown in the trailers.

All around this is a great and funny action movie, where you didn't feel the whole minutes passing.

Gestern waren wir wieder im Kino und haben uns Kingsman - The Golden Circle angesehen.

Der Film beginnt gleich mit einem Anschlag auf Agent Galahad/Eggsy's Leben und er kann sich nur dadurch retten, dass er im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes in der Londoner Kanalisation untertaucht.

Damit hört die Action aber nicht auf und als es einen Anschlag auf alle Kingsman in England gibt und Galahad und Merlin die letzten Überlebenden sind, fliehen sie zu den - noch unbekannten - amerikanischen Kollegen, den Statesman.

Nach und nach fügt sich das Puzzle zusammen und die Agenten versuchen wieder einmal die Welt zu retten...

Nicht zuviel von der Handlung zu spoilern ist bei dem Film nicht leicht. Und auch wenn es die Fortsetzung eines sehr erfolgreichen Films ist, sie ist gut gelungen. Man hat das Gefühl noch mehr Action und Slow-Motion Shots zu sehen, der Witz kommt ganz und gar nicht zu kurz und auch die Trailer haben noch nicht alle guten Szenen gezeigt.

Rundherum ein wirklich guter und humorvoller Actionfilm, dem man die Länge von 141 Minuten nicht anmerkt.
