More busy than fridays

On saturday we wanted to use our NÖ-Card and do some sightseeing in Vienna with a tram-roundtrip. Unfortunately this is not available for free during the summer months, so we'll be back in september.

As an alternative we then just went through the inner city by foot.

On our way to Maraihilf we stopped for lunch at Vollpension (full board), which was very good and we felt very much at home in the place.

In Mariahilf we then found me some new running shoes, which will be tried out today.

Afterwards we went to Planet Harry for the second time this week, but this time just for a quick visit.

After that we went home to relax and entertain the cats.

In the evening we watched one episode of Robot Wars on BBC, which is about building small fighting robots which then fight each other in an arena. After that we just watched two episodes of The Musketeers before going to bed.

Am Samstag wollten wir unsere NÖ-Card ausnutzen und in Wien eine Ring-Tram-Rundfahrt absolvieren. Leider, wie sich erst vor Ort herausgestellt hat, gilt das Angebot nicht in der Sommermonaten, also haben wir das Ganze dann auf September verschoben.

Als Alternativprogramm sind wir dann einfach durch die Innenstadt bis nach Maraihilf spazieren gegangen.

Auf dem Weg dorthin haben wir bei der Vollpension ein Mittagessen genommen. Sehr gut und in einer angenehmen Atmosphäre.

In Mariahilf angekommen haben wir mir dann neue Laufschuhe gekauft, die heute gleich ausprobiert werden.

Weiters sind wir dann auch noch zum lieben Planet Harry gegangen und haben ihn kurz vor Ladenschluss besucht.

Von dort aus ging es dann nach Hause zum Verschnaufen und Katzen bespassen.

Am Abend haben wir uns eine Episode von Robot Wars auf BBC angeschaut, bei der es darum geht kleine Kampfroboter zu bauen und diese gegeneinander in einer Arena kämpfen zu lassen. Danach gab es dann noch zwei Folgen von The Musketeers bevor es ins Bett ging.

Busy, busy, busy

This friday it was shopping time in Mariahilf again. So we went there just after work and the first stop was myMuesli.

Afterwards we went to Planet Harry where I bought Roll of the Galaxy and the Spiel des Jahres (german game of the year) Codenames.

After that we went to Karlsplatz to the popfests and for tasting some icecream at the Emirates truck.

This was followed up by a wrap from the Wrapstars and then we went to Bobby's Foodstore.

Well packed with stuff we then went home and stored our loot. The cats were very interested in everything, especially if there was any sushi for them, which there wasn't this week again.

In the evening we just watched one episode of The Musketeers before we went to bed exhausted.

Am Freitag war wieder einkaufen in Mariahilf angesagt. Also gleich nach der Arbeit sind wir losgegangen und haben zunächst myMuesli heimgesucht.

Danach ging es zum Planet Harry wo ich mir Roll of the Galaxy und das Spiel des Jahres Codenames zugelegt habe.

Danach sind wir langsam Richtung Karlsplatz aufgebrochen, weil wir dort im Rahmes des popfests Eis beim Stand der Emirates gekostet haben.

Dann noch schnell einen Wrap bei den Wrapstars eingeworfen und dann ging es zum Bobby's Foodstore.

Gut bepackt sind wir dann nach Hause gefahren und haben unsere Schätze verstaut. Die Katzen waren natürlich auch schon wieder interessiert was wir mitbringen - und vor allem warum kein Sushi dabei ist.

Am Abend dann haben wir nur mehr eine Folge The Musketeers geschaut bevor wir erschöpft ins Bett gefallen sind.

Cruising memories with friends

Yesterday after work I went to the post office and then grocery shopping. Afterwards friends of ours came over to watch the presentation of our cruise vacation's pictures.

Since this took quite a while, they shortly left after the end and then we just watched one episode of The Musketeers before we went to bed.

Gestern war ich nach der Arbeit noch schnell bei der Post und dann einkaufen. Danach waren dann Freunde bei uns zu Gast, denen wir unsere Urlaubsbilder von der Kreuzfahrt präsentiert haben.

Da dies relativ lange gedauert hat, sind sie dann gleich danach nach Hause gezischt und wir haben uns noch eine Episode von The Musketeers angeschaut bevor es ins Bett ging.

Yesterday evening I quickly conjured up a Kaiserschmarrn for dinner.

After that we went to Guild Wars 2 and continued to explore the new map. We have reached the point where we have seen most of the new stuff, so we'll soon be back on our quest for the legendary staff Nevermore.

The conclusion of the evening was an episode of The Musketeers.

Gestern habe ich am Abend schnell einen Kaiserschmarrn zum Abendessen gezaubert.

Danach ging es dann nach Guild Wars 2 wo wir uns weiter im neuen Gebiet umgeschaut haben. Wir haben jetzt schon fast alles Neue gesehen und werden uns dann demnächst wieder auf den Weg zu unserem legendären Stab Nevermore aufmachen.

Zum Ausklang des Abends gab es dann noch eine Folge The Musketeers.

Back to normal

Yesterday after work I went to my parents' for dinner and I got a tasty curd cheese strudel.

Afterwards I went home and we went out again to do some grocery shopping and to take care of a bunny (for a friend of ours who is currently on vacation).

Back home once more we then looked at the latest update for Guild Wars 2, but there's still much more to discover. After that we watched one episode each of The Musketeers and Kalkofes Mattscheibe on the couch.

Gestern war ich nach der Arbeit bei meinen Eltern und es gab einen köstlichen Topfenstrudel.

Danach ging es nach Hause und von dort, zusammen mit meinem Schatz, zum Einkaufen und Kaninchen betreuen (für einen Freund von uns der gerade auf Urlaub ist).

Wieder zuhause haben wir uns dann ein bisschen mit dem aktuellen Update von Guild Wars 2 beschäftigt - und noch lange nicht alles entdeckt. Danach ging es dann zu jeweils einer Folge The Musketeers und Kalkofes Mattscheibe auf die Couch.

Film Review: Star Trek Beyond

Yesterday it was cinema monday with the latest movie from the Star Trek franchise: Star Trek Beyond.

The Enterprise is halfway through her 5 year mision and get the mission to rescue the crew from a stranded starship. But there's more to that mission, which also puts all of the crew of the Enterprise in a dangerous position which might mean the end of their journey.

Kirk, Spock and Bones are back and brought with them some major special effects. But also the story is quite good and has some nice touches of humour. We also get to see more of the private side of crew life, which also add to this well made movie.

But there's still the issue of 3D. As mentioned before 3D is, especially in darker parts of a movie, not a good choice for a science fiction movie. With the darkened glasses you really have difficulties to follow the action and you see no 3D whatsoever in the darker parts of the film. So I really can only encourage people to go and watch the movie in 2D if they want to actually see the action. You'll just miss some computer generated scenes in 3D, but that's nothing compared to see action in this action movie.

Conclusion: except for the 3D desaster, it's a good and solid Star Trek movie!

Gestern war Kinomontag mit dem neuesten Film aus der Star Trek Reihe: Star Trek Beyond.

Die Enterprise ist gerade einmal bei der Hälfte ihrer 5-Jahres Mission angelangt und bekommt den Auftrag die Crew eines gestrandeten Raumschiffs zu bergen. Was auf den ersten Blick nach Routine aussieht, entpuppt sich bald als mehr und vor allem lebensgefährlich für die gesamte Crew der Enterprise.

Kirk, Spock und Pille sind wieder da und haben Massen an Special Effects mitgebracht. Doch auch die Story ist ganz ok und zeitweise auch mit humoristischen Einlagen versehen, die durchaus witzig sind. Wir bekommen auch mehr Einblick in das Privatleben von Teilen der Crew und so ist es eigentlich ein sehr gut gelungener Film.

Wenn da nicht das ewige 3D wäre. Wie schon erwähnt ist 3D, speziell bei dunklen Passagen eines Films, keine gute Wahl, weil man hier durch die abgedunkelte Brille sehr wenig sieht - ganz zu schweigen vom 3D Effekt. Und da der Star Trek Film einige solches Szenen hat, kann ich nur sehr dringend davon abraten, sich den Film in 3D im Kino anzusehen - 2D ist auch ok und man verpasst nur ein paar sehr gut gemachte Computerbilder. Dafür sieht man aber auch den Rest des Filmes normal und kann der Handlung folgen.

Fazit: ausser dem 3D Debakel, ein sehr guter und solider Star Trek Film!

Time for a vacation

Yesterday after work I went to my parents for dinner and I got some tasty pancakes.

Afterwards I went home and we continued to pack for our vacation, which starts today.

Since we'll be spending the next few days on a cruise ship - where an internet connection is still as valuable as gold - there will be no blog entries for the time being. But there will be a lot of pictures when we are back.

If it's possible and we find some free wifi on our land trips, I will post some pictures from my smartphone to this album: Mittelmeer Kreuzfahrt 2016

Gestern war ich nach der Arbeit wieder bei meinen Eltern und es gab köstliche Palatschinken.

Danach ging es nach Hause und wir haben fleißig für unseren heute beginnenden Urlaub gepackt.

Nachdem wir jetzt für einige Tage auf einem Kreuzfahrtschiff sein werden - wo Internet noch in Gold aufgewogen wird - gibt es für diese Zeit keinen täglichen Blog. Dafür gibt es Tonnen an Bildern wenn wir wieder zurück sind.

Film Review: Ice Age - Collision Course

Yesterday it was time for the movies again, with the most recent part of Ice Age: Collision Course

The chaotic group around Manny, Diego and Sid try this time the prevent the destruction of the planet by a meteorite. On their journey they are supported by old and new animal friends.

Well, that's about as much story as there is - except for the conclusion of the movie. The film is a classic animation movie, but without any real highlights. Although it was said before the release of the film, that it will focus more on the original trio, this hasn't put the movie to a new level at all.

Conclusion: fair entertainment, but as the fourth remake of the story "talking animals during the ice age" not very fresh

Gestern war wieder Kino angesagt, mit dem aktuellsten Teil von Ice Age: Collision Course

Die Chaotentruppe um Manny, Diego und Sid versuchen diesmal der drohenden Vernichtung der Erde durch einen Meteoriten zu entgehen. Dabei werden sie von vielen bekannten und neuen Tiere begleitet und unterstützt.

Tja, sehr viel mehr Story ist dann da auch nicht zu erzählen - ohne das Ende vorweg zu nehmen. Der Film ist ein klassischer Animationsfilm, aber ohne echte Highlights. Obwohl im Vorfeld gesagt wurde, dass jetzt wieder mehr Augenmerk auf die ursprünglichen Helden gelegt wurde, hat es dem Film nicht wirklich eine neue und spritzige Note verliehen.

Fazit: nette Unterhaltung, aber durch den vierten Aufguss des Themas "sprechende Tiere in der Eiszeit" nicht mehr wirklich sehr originell

Football and some gaming

This sunday we went out for lunch with a friend of ours to Koi.

Afterwards we were quite full and so we just went home, where we watched two episodes of Celebrity MasterChef. After that we switched to boardgames and played Castles of Mad King Ludwig.

And then it was already time for the Euro 2016 game of France versus Iceland, the reason we met in the first place. After this nerve wracking game was over, out friend went home and we went straight to bed.

Am Sonntag sind wir zu Mittag mit einer lieben Freundin zum Koi essen gegangen.

Danach waren wir voll und sind nach Haus gerollt, wo wir uns dann zwei Folgen von Celebrity MasterChef angeschaut haben. Danach ging es zum Brettspielen und wir haben Castles of Mad King Ludwig gespielt.

Dann war es schon Zeit für das EM Match Frankreich gegen Island, weswegen wir uns eigentlich getroffen hatten. Als dieser Krimi vorbei war, ist unsere Freundin wieder nach Hause gegangen und wir sind nur mehr ins Bett gefallen.

This saturday I first made some dessert for sunday evening: lemon posset.

After that we continued with our preparations for our upcoming vacation and later that afternoon we went to a friend for a boardgame evening.

First up was Roll for the Galaxy - a dice game similar to the card game Race for the Galaxy. I really liked that game very much and I guess I'll get it for myself after our vacation.

Then we started eliminating monsters in Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game, which we played three times - two of which ended very badly for us.

The conclusion of the boardgame evening was Tiny Epic Galaxies, but my dear was very good at this and wiped the floor with us.

Afterwards we could try out the new Oculus Rift of our friend and although we both liked it, I doubt that we will be getting one ourselves in the near future.

Am Samstag habe ich zunächst eine Nachspeise für Sonntag Abend gemacht: Lemon Posset.

Danach haben wir uns unseren Reisevorbereitungen gewidmet und später am Nachmittag sind wir dann zu einem Freund zum Brettspielen aufgebrochen.

Gespielt haben wir zunächst Roll for the Galaxy - ein Würfelspiel angelehnt an dem Kartenspiel Race for the Galaxy. Es hat mir sehr gut gefallen und ich werde es mir nach dem Urlaub vermutlich zulegen.

Danach ging es zu den Monsterhorden bei Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game, was wir dreimal gespielt haben und dabei zweimal ordentlich verloren haben.

Zum Abschluss der Brettspiele haben wir dann noch Tiny Epic Galaxies gespielt, wobei uns hier mein Schatz ordentlich besiegt hat.

Danach durften wir noch die neue Oculus Rift von unserem Freund ausprobieren und obwohl es uns gut gefallen hat, glaube ich sagen zu dürfen, dass wir uns das Teil nicht so schnell zulegen werden.

This friday we stayed home longer and went to Mariahilf late. We only went to Planet Harry, because we went out to dinner with him.

The restaurant where we went to was called die metzgerei (the butchery) and we got very, very good food there.

Well fed, we then went home (slowly) and just took care of our cats before we went to bed.

Am Freitag waren wir länger zuhause und sind erst spät nach Mariahilf gegangen. Dort waren wir diesmal auch nur beim lieben Planet Harry, weil wir mit ihm gemeinsam Abendessen gegangen sind.

Das Lokal wo wir waren heisst die metzgerei und hat vorzügliches Essen.

Yesterday we had our yearly summer party, so I came home later than usual.

I just quickly baked a redcurrant cake and then we watched just one episode of Celebrity MasterChef before it was time for bed.

Gestern war in der Arbeit das alljährliche Sommerfest und da bin ich dann später nach Hause gekommen.

Ich habe dann noch schnell einen Ribiselkuchen gebacken und wir haben uns noch eine Folge von Celebrity MasterChef angeschaut bevor es ins Bett gegangen ist.
